Thursday, October 5, 2017 - Attacks on free press escalate
Last Thursday, Trump called for the Senate Intel Committee to investigate news networks that report unsavory things about the President. Soon after, committee leader Richard Burr stated that this proposed investigation was not going to happen, probably because the idea in and of itself was stupid, and there is absolutely no legal precedent for this unless we lived in an authoritarian state. Last I checked we do not, but honestly, who knows what the next three years will bring.
Friday, October 6, 2017 - Access to birth control slashed
New rules by the Trump administration were announced Friday allowing employers to deny birth control and contraceptive care to employees based on religious and/or moral objections. Several states as well as the ACLU have filed lawsuits against the administration for its violation of rights with this new policy change Because of course, why would insurance pay for birth control when they could instead pay for a whole baby?
Saturday, October 7, 2017 - Trump threatens nuclear war… maybe?
No one is 100% sure what is meant by this, but Trump tweeted on Saturday that “only one thing will work” with regards to North Korea. The general consensus seems to be that he believes nuclear war with North Korea is the only answer, especially because of his statements last week that Secretary of State Tillerson’s attempted peace talks were “wasting his time.” However, if I were the President, I might want to listen, especially after Kim Jong Un said that he would "surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire." No matter who you are, that statement on its own is terrifying.
Sunday, October 8, 2017 - Bob Corker Twitter controversy
Much like two grackles fighting over a french fry, a Twitter fight ensued Sunday when Donald Trump accused Senator Bob Corker of begging the President for an endorsement for his re-election campaign. According to Trump, when he denied Corker this endorsement, the Senator announced his retirement because he “didn’t have the guts to run.” This encouraged a response from Senator Corker, and, well, check out the tweet of the week to find out what he said.
Tweet of the week:
Although the tweet of the week is typically from Donald Trump, we just had to make an exception this week. There’s really no more comment needed, because the tweet really speaks for itself.
